A Paul Harris primer

A Paul Harris primer

As George Cassat handed out more Paul Harris awards yesterday, I got to wondering how many of us really know what this award is about and the different levels there are. So here is a Paul Harris 101 for anyone who has ever wondered what the pins stand for:

Paul P. Harris, a lawyer, was the founder of Rotary, the world's first and most international service club.

Paul Harris Fellow Recognition is given, upon request, to an individual who contributes, or in whose name is contributed, $1,000. Paul Harris recognition can be earned through contributions to the Annual Programs Fund (unrestricted) or through restricted contributionsto Foundation programs such as PolioPlus, PolioPlus Partners, and sponsor portions of approved Matching Grants.

When a Paul Harris Fellow makes asecond $1,000 contribution to the Foundation, he / she will receive, upon request, a Paul Harris Fellow pin with one sapphire. Each additional $1,000 contribution will entitle the donor to receive, upon request, a new pin up to a maximum $9,999.99 as indicated below. In addition, for each such $1,000 contribution, the donor may designate another person as a Paul Harris Fellow.

The pins are awarded as follows:

  • US$2,000 to $2,999.99 - a Paul Harris Pin with one sapphire
  • US$3,000 to $3,999.99 - a Paul Harris Pin with two sapphires
