Bikes for Christmas
Bikes for Christmas is a program designed to give bikes and safety helmets to children whose families would otherwise never be able to afford one. The purpose of the program is to promote exercise and freedom of movement for children in our community. A joint program that is the effort of several Rotary clubs: Pasadena, San Marino, Pasadena After Hours and Altadena, utilizes grants and donations to purchase bikes at cost, bike helmets and accessories such as water bottles and locks. The equipment is ordered in June and delivered in early November when Rotarians and their families come together to assemble the bikes. Working with the Salvation Army and the Pasadena Unified School District, the bikes, helmets and gear are then dispersed in mid-December to families pre-selected by PUSD. As the parents pick up their bikes, Pasadena Police Department is on hand to register each one with its new owner. If you wish to help, please contact Co-Chairs Colleen Carey and Desiree Alvarado.
